An Air NZ flight has been forced to make an emergency landing at Nelson Airport, after its cockpit and cabin started filling with smoke.

Around 50 passengers were in the plane, believed to be a Bombardier Q300. The smoke was reportedly caused by hydraulic acid.

Fire crews, police and ambulance staff raced to the landed plane and a passenger was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
