Specialist contractors will from Monday be at the site of the deadly CTV building, carrying out further tests as part of the police investigation into its catastrophic collapse.

One-hundred-and-eighteen people were killed when the office block pancaked in the 2011 Canterbury earthquake.

Eight trenches will be dug to allow soil specialists and engineers to examine the soil and foundations of where the building stood.

The site works are part of the final stages of the police investigation, which will determine whether any criminal charges should be laid over the collapse.

More than 100 have been interviewed as part of the inquiry, and critical elements of the building have been rebuilt and tested.

An outcome and any decisions on culpability are expected later in the year.
