David Jones will open in Wellington's CBD on Thursday morning, marking the first-ever New Zealand location for the upscale Australian department store.
Wednesday was a night of glitz and glamour, with local stars turning out for a VIP cocktail party ahead of the opening.
Among the big names were Jamie Ridge, designer Karen Walker, a lady wearing a cool coat, a GhostBuster and heaps of random guys in suits standing in a line.
The Prime Minister was also there, clearly enjoying sharing the spotlight with Australian model Jessica Gomes.
The slick bash also included a performance by Ladyhawke.
Security was tight, with Ladyhawke's band getting a grilling from the Prime Minister's security.
So why should the average Wellingtonian even care that David Jones is here?
"It's so exciting, especially for fashion lovers - me, I'm stoked," Ridge says.
She plans to come to the store a lot: "It's such a quick flight, it's only an hour," she says.
Gomes says it's "invigorating" the city.
"And it's a one-up from Auckland so that's good."
"The women's shoe department is to die for," John Key says.
David Jones says it's spent $25 million on the store. It took the site over after previous tenant and Wellington landmark Kirkcaldie and Stains closed down last year.
It should be welcomed as a big sign of investor confidence in Wellington's CBD, Mr Key says.
It's also a good place to stare at expensive sunnies and bump into celebs.
