A car has flipped onto its roof following a crash on the Kapiti Coast, causing the closure of State Highway 1.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning, on a stretch of road a kilometre north of seaside town Pukerua Bay.
The crash has closed both lanes, with police now at the scene. They are advising motorists to avoid the area completely or, if possible, to delay their travels.
Police say they expect to open a northbound lane shortly, with those travelling south urged to take Paekakariki Hill Rd.
Motorists affected by the road closure have been thanked by police for their patience.
