The parents of a child who died in Eastern Bay of Plenty have been charged with manslaughter.

Shane Neil, 29, and Lacey-Marie Te Whetu, 26, are accused of failing to provide a child with necessaries and take reasonable steps to protect him from injury.

Donna Parangi, 51, is also charged over the incident in Taneatua in November last year.

All three appeared in Tauranga High Court today, where not-guilty pleas were entered.

They were remanded on bail to return for a case review hearing in August.

A trial date has been set for May next year.
