Thieves ram raid Auckland petrol station

A worker fled their post to hide out back during a ram raid that saw a large amount of cash and cigarettes stolen from an Auckland Z petrol station yesterday.

Three vehicles and up to 10 thieves were involved in what appeared to be an organised criminal operation.

A vehicle reversed into the glass door of the station in Kumeu and eight people rushed inside, taking the cash register, before fleeing the scene at around 3:30am yesterday.

Police have released the CCTV footage of the robbery in progress in hopes the public will be able to help in identifying the criminals.

Detective Debra Brewer of Waitemata Police said she hopes anyone with any information will come forward.

"Most of those involved have concealed their faces, but there is one whose face we can clearly see," says Det Brewer.

A service station employee, who was in the service station at the time, was lucky not to be injured. They reportedly ran to the rear office when the car smashed through the front doors.

Police ask anyone who can assist them in their investigation call Orewa Police station on (09) 426 4555, or to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
