Three people, including two young children, have spent the night in hospital after being hit by an SUV while walking at Pukehina in the Bay of Plenty.
An 11-month-old boy is in a critical condition in Auckland's Starship Hospital, while a two-year-old girl and a 33-year-old woman are in a serious but stable condition.
The accident happened about 2:30pm on Otamarakau Valley Rd.
Police believe the driver - who was uninjured - may have been affected by fatigue.
Investigations into the crash are underway.
