Low morale amongst police officers in West Auckland may have forced one of the top cops to take a new job.

Inspector Gary Davey will take on a legal role in the force, leaving his current position as Waitakere area commander.

He became the face of the very public search for missing West Auckland toddler Aisling Symes in 2009.

A recent poll showed 1/3 of Waitakere officers were “not engaged” in their work.
