The construction company who lost three men during the tornado in west Auckland yesterday says it is a “terrible tragedy”.

Tom Stowers, 42, Keith Langford, 60, and Brendon Johnson, 22, were killed when a concrete slab fell at a Hobsonville Pt building site during severe weather.

Four other men working on the building site were injured and admitted to hospital. Three have been released, while one remains in a stable condition.

Hawkins Construction executive general manager Dan Ashby says the company is working closely with the four subcontracting companies involved, to provide assistance and support to the families and workmates of the victims.

“This has been a terrible tragedy for the families of those killed and injured, and everyone involved in the project is deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened,” he said.

“We are also mindful of the devastating impact the tornado has had on the wider Hobsonville and Whenuapai communities, and we have offered our support.”

Mr Ashby says Hawkins is establishing a public donations fund for the families of the men killed and will make details available early next week.
