Train graffiti 'stupid and dangerous' – Auckland Transport

Someone will be seriously injured or killed if people continue to graffiti trains, Auckland Transport warns.

It comes after an incident yesterday where CCTV footage captured a group of youths wearing balaclavas spray-painting a train, just before it entered the Parnell tunnel.

The graffiti attack on the train also left one passenger struggling to breath due to fumes released by the spray-paint.

Auckland Transport Rail Services manager Craig Inger said being anywhere near train tracks is "stupid and dangerous."

"Improved security at railway stabling yards has seen the problem move onto suburban rail lines in recent years," he said.

Mr Inger said the region’s new fleet of electric trains were faster and quieter than the older diesel units, posing an even greater risk.
