A jury has been chosen this morning for the murder trial of the two men accused of attacking and killing Radio New Zealand journalist Phillip Cottrell.

Seven women and five men will spend the next two weeks hearing evidence at the trial presided over by Justice Forrest Miller at the High Court in Wellington.

Manuel Renera Robinson, 18, and Nicho Alan Waipuka, 20, have pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.

The Crown alleges they murdered Mr Cottrell in the early hours of December 10 last year as he was walking home along Boulcott St following a nightshift at the state radio broadcaster.

The 43-year-old sustained serious injuries to his brain, neck and left arm and was put on life support after surgery. It was later turned off by members of his family.

Sixty-eight witnesses will be called for the trial, including taxi drivers, paramedics and workmates.
