CCTV photos have been released of the cars involved in the death of a patched Tribesman motorcycle gang member in Whangarei.

John Henry Harris was left to die at the St John ambulance station after being shot in the chest on Tuesday. The shooting is being described as an internal incident between two members of the Tribesmen Motorcycle Club.

Police are appealing for any sightings of either car in the Whangarei area in the lead up to the shooting.

The first car is a red 2007 Holden Commodore, registration number JCS248. Police believe it was towed from an address on Hassard St in the early on Tuesday morning.

The second car is a black Holden Commodore registration number FZC162. It was found on fire on Lovell Rd, in Ruatangata just after 12pm on Tuesday.

Detective Inspector Kevin Burke says police have already received a number of calls from members of the public and say this has assisted police greatly.

Police are also appealing for any sightings of a group of men gathered in the Whangarei or Kamo areas in early on Tuesday morning.

Det Insp Burke says scene examinations at two Whangarei address are ongoing, however it is expected they will be completed on Thursday.

Mr Harris' tangi will be held on Saturday. Police are expecting the attendance of a large number of gang members from across the North Island.

Det Insp Burke says additional police resources from Auckland have been put in place throughout Northland District to provide extra safety.
