As the Christchurch earthquake struck and people clamoured for information, Twitter went crazy.
If you look at this picture you can see that tweets concerning the earthquake totally dominated.
Words such as chch, cathedral, fatalities, devastation, collapsed, triage and overload painted a chilling picture of a city in distress.
Most of the tweets emanated from the more populous North Island, as Cantabrians would have struggled to access the internet from mobile phones.3 News
