A senior veterinary nurse has been axed after she ordered drugs at Holistic Vets in Tauranga for herself, and a co-worker had seen her take cat food from the office.

Emma Campbell was found responsible for ordering holistic drugs by the Employment Relations Authority (ERA), according to Radio New Zealand (RNZ).

A co-worker found the prescription drug Imovane used to treat insomnia in a box delivered to the company, and an investigation found she had also ordered anti-pain medicines Voltaren and Brufen.

She initially said she ordered Imovane mistakenly, and then said later she thought she was allowed to order prescription medicine under company policy, RNZ reports.

The ERA says Ms Campbell knew she was acting illegally.

Under law vets can order human prescription medicine for animals but not for their own use. Ms Campbell was fired, and Holistic Vets she has "seriously undermined the trust…of the employment relationship".
