Christchurch’s Cup Day is in full swing – or rather sway – as thousands dress up and party down at the annual event.

Organisers say this year’s Cup Day is the biggest since the quakes, and despite the cooler weather, punters are getting right into the festivities.

With dresses and suits as far as the eye can see, fashion is centre stage.

And while outfits are the key to the day, punters have begun backing horses.

Last year's winner of the cup, ‘Terror To Love’, is a favourite to win again and with $600,000 up for grabs, it'll be an exciting race.

The official New Zealand Trotting Cup Day festivities kicked off just before midday, but over 20,000 punters are expected to attend.

Cup Week has grown steadily each year and now generates millions of dollars for the region.

The week is made up of five key racing events and the Canterbury A&P Show, with a visit from Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles the icing on the cake.
