David Bain has today married his fiancée Liz Davies.

Mr Bain was engaged to the primary school teacher since September 2012, but today Ms Davies officially became Mrs Bain.

Mr Bain's close friend and former All Black Joe Karam earlier today said he was looking forward to the wedding.

"It's a very happy day for David and Liz, they're getting married and it's a beautiful day in Christchurch so they're expecting a lovely private function," he told RadioLIVE. "There's quite a big number attending of friends from all over the country, and family and so on."

Mr Karam told The New Zealand Herald the couple had been offered some lucrative, "quite significant" offers by a number of women's magazines, but they had chosen to turn down the offers and instead will have a very private wedding.

Mr Bain had hoped to keep his nuptials private but his cover was blown and a large media contingent descended on the venue on the outskirts of Christchurch today.

Mr Bain is currently waiting to see if he will receive compensation from the Government for the 13 years he served in prison.

He was convicted in 1995 of murdering his family in Dunedin, but his convictions were quashed by the Privy Council in 2007 on the grounds that a substantial miscarriage of justice had occurred. At his retrial in 2009, he was acquitted of all five murders.
