A Christchurch tech company has hit the big time on crowdfunding website Kickstarter, after building what it's calling the "most advanced gaming mouse ever made".

Swiftpoint has raised more than US$80,000 in just three days for 'The Z', and is on track to substantially exceed its US$140,000 target.

Despite having just six employees, Swiftpoint has carved out a name internationally for their mice. With the latest iteration, chief executive Grant Odgers claims his team have invented a new way of clicking.

"Basically it lets everyone use a mouse in the most efficient, most intuitive way ever known, and we think it's going to change the way people use their computer," he says.

"What we've done really is taken the technology that people have in a smartphone. We've taken the actual chip that's in an iPhone and put it in a mouse [...] to basically have the mouse be aware of its position in terms of tilting or pivoting."

The mouse also used a range of new buttons to help users get the most of their games, allowing 50 clicks while "barely moving your fingers", he says. It could also come in handy for home and office power users.

"Everybody, if you're a chef or a carpenter, you would buy the best tool available for your job. All these people who sit in offices should really buy the best tool available, but people still buy a cheap mouse."

The mouse costs US$139 through Kickstarter and will be shipped internationally.
