Vigil to be held for Kenya crash victims
A vigil will be held at Bethlehem College in Tauranga today to remember those who died in a bus crash in Kenya.
Nineteen-year-old former student Caitlin Dickson and parents from the school Brian and Grace Johnston died after the mini-van they were travelling in crashed and rolled into a ditch last week.
The three were part of a group of 19 New Zealanders – 12 students and seven adults – who were on a volunteer trip organised by the college to Ark Quest School in the small village of Ma’hanga.
The driver of the van, Christopher Mmaata also died in the incident, and 12 others were injured.
Yesterday the first of the group, as well as the bodies of the three victims, arrived back in New Zealand.
Some of the students involved in the accident are expected to speak to the media later today.
Ms Dickson’s funeral will take place tomorrow.
Bethlehem College has set up a fund for the children of the Johnstons and the families of those in Kenya whose family members were involved in the crash.
