Weather: Pleasant temperatures expected for Auckland Marathon

Auckland Marathon runners are in for good conditions this Sunday, with temperatures expected to be not too hot, nor too cold for the big event.

Apart from an "outside chance" of rain, runners should see long fine spells with easing southwest breezes.

The MetService says most of the country will be in for a relatively fine weekend, with just the odd shower forecast in various centres.

The places where scattered rain may be on the cards are Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel Peninsula, Kapiti and Canterbury. Southland is expected to get the bulk of the rainfall, but should also have a few fine breaks on Sunday.

A fine evening is forecast in the capital on Saturday for Robbie Williams concert-goers, though it could get a little chilly later on in the night.

"Saturday night looks like a great night for trick or treaters", says MetService meteorologist Tom Adams, "but wrap up warm as overnight the temperature will drop into the single figures just about everywhere".

A toasty weekend high of 17-18degC is expected in Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch, and Nelson will be putting on a stunning weekend, expecting 19degC.

Invercargill can expect and cool high of 12degC.

Northwesterlies are set to pick up across the country early next week, before a significant trough arrives, bringing rain to much of the South Island on Tuesday and to the North Island on Wednesday, before winds turns southerly .
