The  Wellington City Council is reducing the cordon on quake-stricken Molesworth St and says quake repairs are picking up pace.

Traffic and pedestrians will flow on one side of Molesworth St from Thursday morning and council spokesman Richard MacLean hopes the whole street will be back in action soon.

"Hopefully we will be able to really crack on with the rest of the demolition and get the road and everything fully open as quickly as possible," he says.

The cordon has been in place since it was found the office building at 61 Molesworth St was in danger of collapse as a result of November's magnitude 7.8 earthquake.
