Wellington's runners head for the bays
Sunday 17 Feb 2013 7:11 a.m.
The MetService says there is a chance of a light shower for the Round the Bays run in Wellington today, which has more participants than any other event in the capital.
The starter's gun goes off for 2500 runners in a half marathon at 8am and a record 11,000 people line up for 7 kilometre fun run at 9.20am.
Roads are closed for the runs, which start in Frank Kitts Park and finish in Kilbirnie Park.
Organiser Craig Ireson says more than one-tenth of the population either run, walk, sponsor, fundraise, volunteer or work at the 30-year-old event, which has sold out for a second year in a row.
