Wharf jump launches Safer Boating Week

Wharf jump launches Safer Boating Week

A simultaneous wharf jump in Wellington and Auckland took place on Friday morning to launch Safer Boating Week, led by Maritime New Zealand director Keith Manch.

Boating safety leaders jumped off holding their life jackets, in an effort to demonstrate how difficult it is to put one on while in the water. Others jumped off already wearing lifejackets.

Safer Boating Week is taking place from October 14 - 21, the week before Labour Day weekend, and the traditional start of recreational boating in much of the country.

The aim of the week is to promote three simple steps for boaties to consider before heading out on the water.
