Witnesses sought after armed robbery at KFC

Police are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery in Christchurch on Tuesday night.

A man brandishing a gun demanded money from staff at the Riccarton KFC just after 8pm.

He left in a black car driven by another man, which was seen heading towards Riccarton Mall.

A spokesperson for KFC says they're thankful the staff caught in the robbery remained calm and no one was hurt.

"We have a number of measures in place to reduce any risk to our staff and customers in these situations."

"This includes not keeping large amounts of cash on-site and training staff to ensure they can manage these types of incidents."

Counselling and support has been offered to all Riccarton staff and the company says it's working with police in the investigation.

It comes after another robbery on Riccarton Rd on Saturday at 7:15pm. A man with a knife robbed a dairy, taking off with the till.

He is described as wearing a black covering over his face, black formal pants, dark blue hoodie, and black formal shoes.

Anyone who saw the incident at the Riccarton KFC is asked to contact police on 03 363 7400 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
