A woman was killed late last night when the vehicle she was driving collided with a milk tanker.
The accident occurred at about 11:45pm, five kilometres north of the Wairakei roundabout on State Highway 5, north of Taupo.
Emergency services were examining the scene this morning to determine how the crash happened.
The woman driving the Toyota died as a result of her injuries. The driver of the milk tanker was unharmed.
The weather in the area last night was fine.
The Taupo serious crash unit is investigating the incident. The death has been referred to the coroner.
