Police on Auckland's North Shore went to an incident outside a Glenfield liquor store on Saturday night where a woman was badly assaulted.
The woman, believed to be 62-years-old, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The assault happened at around 6:30pm.
A liquor store attendant told the New Zealand Herald two women were causing trouble in the store and had tried to steal something.
