Z service stations become lifesaving

Z Energy has brought lifesaving technology to their stores, with the purchase and installation of more than 200 defibrillators at Z service stations across New Zealand.

Z Energy has been working in partnership with St John during the process of purchasing the devices.  The company has bought 214 to ensure every Z station across the country has one installed.

Z's retail sales manager Rob McDonald said the decision came at a cost, but if the machines save even one life, it'll be worth it.

"We know that defibrillators significantly increase the chance of someone surviving a cardiac arrest," Mr McDonald said.

"And we reckon making defibrillators available to our site staff, to our customers and to communities across New Zealand is just one small step we can take toward helping keep our communities safe."

St Johns chief executive Peter Bradley said New Zealand has a relatively low rate of public access to defibrillators.

"Early defibrillation has the potential to double or treble the survival rate from cardiac arrest, and we support any initiative to make this life-saving technology more publicly available," Mr Bradley said.

St Johns will also be holding training sessions to ensure Z staff can operate the machines.

The company will have their annual appeal in store from April 4 until April 10.

First aid plasters go on sale today and will be available for purchase until Sunday or while stocks last.
