Labour Party MP Darien Fenton has announced she will not stand for re-election in September.

Ms Fenton has been a Labour list MP since 2005.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to have served in Parliament as a Labour MP for nearly nine years," she says.

"I came to Parliament with one aim, and that was to help make a better life for the low-income service workers I have worked with over many years."

During her time in Parliament, Ms Fenton was behind three Bills drawn from the members' ballot.

The Minimum Wage and Remuneration Amendment Bill which sought to extend the minimum wage in 2006 reached select committee before being voted down by the National-led Government in 2008.

In 2009 her Employment Relations (Statutory Minimum Redundancy Entitlements) Amendment Bill, which sought to create minimum statutory entitlements for employees who were made redundant was drawn, but was dismissed at its first reading a year later.

In 2012 her Local Government (Public Libraries) Amendment Bill, which sought to remove the ability of libraries to charge for access to books and the internet was voted down 61-60.
