The Government's being criticised for refusing to attend a Southland job crisis debate but the Prime Minister's refusing to acknowledge there's a problem.
The local council has organised the summit which aims to address the regions 5.3-percent unemployment rate, its worst in more than a decade.
Three opposition politicians have confirmed they'll be attending but John Key says his MPs understand the market and are already working to increase employment.
“There is no real one single silver bullet, we could throw some money at an employment scheme but really that’s a fraction of the labour market in New Zealand.”
Invitations were sent to Mr Key, Deputy Prime Minister and Clutha-Southland MP Bill English and Invercargill MP Eric Roy.
