Green Party MP Marama Davidson will be heading home after being detained by Israeli authorities on a flotilla bound for Gaza.
Ms Davidson was one of 13 women on board the Zaytouna-Olivia which was intercepted in international water and towed to Ashod by the Israeli navy.
The peace flotilla was protesting Israel's decade-long blockade.
The Greens say Ms Davidson will be deported from Israel and will likely arrive at Auckland Airport on Saturday morning.
Co-leader Metiria Turei says she's relieved her colleague is safe and well "and that she received no ill treatment during her arrest and detention".
"Her trip was focused on drawing attention to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where Palestinians are struggling to survive."
On Thursday, Prime Minister John Key said he wasn't surprised Ms Davidson ended up in her situation because previous attempts by other flotillas wound up the same way.
He said her detainment was a "less than perfect look" for New Zealand.
The official advice would have been not to go on the trip.
