Simon Bridges was sworn in as a minister outside cabinet this week following a reshuffle after the resignation of Nelson MP Nick Smith.
He takes on Consumer Affairs plus the Associate Transport and Associate Climate Change portfolios.
A former Crown prosecutor, Mr Bridges has only been in parliament for just over a term. But he's seen as one of National's new generation of political stars.
He is well liked around his electorate of Tauranga.
