The Pharmacy Guild believes an increase in prescription fees is well overdue.
The Ministry of Health today revealed that next week's budget will see the charges rise from $3 to $5 an item.
The chief executive of the Pharmacy Guild, Karen Crisp, says it's the first price hike in 20 years and she's fully supportive of it.
“You can barely get a cup of coffee for $5 these days,” she says.
“I certainly think that medicines are a very, very valuable things for patients.”
The savings from the prescription changes will amount to $20 million in the first year and $40 million in subsequent year.
