Rapper King Kapisi has pulled out of becoming a would-be politician for the Internet Party.

The APRA award-winning artist, real name Bill Urale, was a contender in the party's candidate idol recently but now says he wants to be a force for political change rather than an MP.

He will instead become the Internet Mana Youth Culture and Pasifika Ambassador.

"Politics is not for me right now, but political change is. My passion remains strong to have a change in our current government," he says.

He decided his skills would be better suited "on the ground" getting people, especially in south and west Auckland involved in the political process.

Mr Urale will lead a number of events in those areas which typically have low voter turnout.

"That’s got to change. We’ve got to make sure our people have a voice. Nothing will change unless we stand up and make that voice heard. To get the message across we’ll be out where our people are and putting on events that will get them interested and involved."

The Internet Party will announce its list of candidates as well as the electorates most will stand in tomorrow.
