If radio host John Tamihere is looking for a career change, he can rule out standing for the Labour Party again after its leader said he had a "snowflake's chance" of being a candidate.

Tamihere and his RadioLIVE co-host Willie Jackson yesterday announced they would be off-air for the rest of the year, after controversial comments made in relation to the Roast Busters group.

Asked if he had a view on whether Tamihere, a former Labour MP, could reapply for party membership, leader David Cunliffe said it wasn't a matter for the party.

"I wouldn't be in a hurry to sign him up and I'd say he's got a snowflake's chance of becoming a Labour candidate."

Party secretary Tim Barnett says Tamihere is not a Party member and has not renewed his membership this year.

Last week, Tamihere and Jackson interviewed a woman named 'Amy' who claimed to be a friend of one of the Roast Busters' victims.

The 18-year-old was asked about her own sexual habits and dress sense and asked why she was out late at night drinking and at what age she lost her virginity.

A number of companies pulled their advertising from the show in the wake of the controversial comments and outrage from listeners – a boycott spurred by blogger Giovanni Tiso.
