Maraetai beachgoers rescue submerged ute

Locals banded together yesterday to rescue a ute that had become stranded in the incoming tide on Maraetai Beach, east Auckland.

With the Nissan partially submerged in water, beachgoers freed the vehicle with the help of two SUVs towing from the front and several people pushing from behind.

Video captured by Ray Liebenberg shows the crowd cheering as the vehicle rolls out of the water and onto the dry shore.
