An investigation has been launched into whether the All Blacks Sevens had eight players on the field when they scored a late equalising try against Australia at the Sydney Sevens last night.

Videos of the final play appear to show eight players on the field in the dying moments of the game, just before Ardie Savea scored the try that sent New Zealand to the top of Pool A.

Investigators at World Rugby have contacted Australia's Sevens side to inform them of a review into the incident – though it is not clear what will happen should they find New Zealand had too many players on the field.

The result may well be annulled and the All Blacks Sevens stripped of their points – which would mean the team would play England in the quarterfinals instead of the United States.

However, the Australian camp have informed NewsCorp that they are not worried about the outcome of the review and will happily play England as is planned.
