Catherine Latu is putting the double disappointments of 2015 behind her after regaining her spot in the Silver Ferns squad for 2016.

The Mystics shooter was overlooked by previous coach Wai Taumaunu for August's World Cup and wasn't required for the recent Constellation Cup series against Australia.

But the 29-year-old is back in favour and feeling good about new coach Janine Southby's inaugural squad.

"You know she means business and we also know that we got it and I think there were some great netball out there at trials because it's December and no one's really thinking netball at the moment," Latu said.

"I think we showed some promise so I think it's going to be a good group of girls."

Southby's also introduced some young blood, in the form of Jess Moulds, Storm Purvis and Gina Crampton.

Casualties were inevitable and Latu is sorry young shooter Malia Paseka and defender Phoenix Karaka both missed out.

"I'm happy for myself but then you feel sorry for your mates so that's how cut throat it is and I've been on the other side of it a few more times than I would like so I do know how they feel and I know that if they want it hard enough, they'll come back just like I had to."
