Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick as Bayern Munich stormed to a 6-0 win over Werder Bremen in coach Carlo Ancelotti's first Bundesliga game in charge of the German champions.

The opening game of the German football league season was a one-sided affair from the start and turned into a rout on a warm evening in the Allianz Arena as Bayern made it 12 wins in a row over a harmless Bremen side.

Xabi Alonso opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a drop kick from 25 metres and Lewandowski got his first four minutes later when he beat keeper Felix Wiedwald from an angle.

Bayern needed just 39 seconds of the second half to make it three when Lewandowski, last season's top league scorer, got on the end of a Thomas Mueller cross after Bremen lost the ball in their own half.

Philipp Lahm added a fourth and Franck Ribery made it five before Lewandowski completed the scoring from the penalty spot.
