The women's Black Sticks have fallen 3-0 to Great Britain in the semi-final stage of the Rio Olympics.

Great Britain will met Netherlands in the final, while New Zealand will have to pick themselves up for the bronze medal match against Germany early Saturday morning (NZT).

Alexandra Danson gave Britain the lead 21 minutes into the contest when she turned home a loose ball after Sally Rutherford's initial save.

The New Zealand goalkeeper got down smartly saving an original penalty corner move, but Danson was on hand to get enough on the ball to score.

The lead was doubled after Black Sticks captain Kayla Whitelock gave away a penalty stroke when she bundled over a Great Britain player who was through one-on-one.

Rutherford dived the right way, but Helen Walsh-Richardson had enough power on the effort to push the lead out to 2-0 with 12 minutes to play.

All hopes were ended after a second penalty stroke was tucked away by Danson.

Great Britain denied New Zealand a bronze medal at the London Olympics four years ago.
