The New Zealand Breakers basketball club will today respond to the incident involving Corey Webster, who's been charged with assault after a fight at a bar in Takapuna yesterday morning after a night out to celebrate his 28th birthday.

It comes five years after the 28-year-old was sacked by the club for using synthetic cannabis.

He was re-signed the following year on a three-year deal and last year signed another three-year deal with the four-time NBL champions.

General Manager Dillon Boucher will be speaking on behalf of the club.

Webster has been bailed and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

He's unlikely to feature for the Breakers when they play the Illawarra Hawks at the North Shore Events Centre tomorrow night.

The 28-year-old Webster is also in trouble with the NBL...which has charged him with "unreasonable contact" with the face of a Cairns Taipans player during their game last weekend.

Webster's actions are considered careless and he will escape with a fine of 500 dollars with an early guilty plea.
