Kane Williamson came to the crease with no runs on the board and made 145 not out to almost single-handedly take New Zealand to 279-8 against South Africa in the second one-day international.

BlackCaps’ Williamson hit 17 fours and a six off the last ball of the innings for his career-high ODI score.

On what was expected to be a good batting pitch at De Beers Diamond Oval, Williamson dominated New Zealand's innings and the South African bowlers.

He shared a 127-run partnership with Grant Elliott (48) to set South Africa 280 to have a chance at saving the three-game series.

New Zealand surprisingly won the first ODI over the weekend in the three-match series, after being embarrassed in the tests.

Morne Morkel took 3-71 for the Proteas.
