NRL referee's boss Tony Archer admits the bunker's decision on Solomone Kata's no try was wrong.

Kata looked to have given the Warriors a possible 12-point lead on the stroke of halftime against the Wests Tigers, but the bunker gave the red light on the decision to overturn on-field referee Gerard Sutton.

The bunker ruled that Tigers winger Jordan Rankin was obstructed by Sam Lisone as Tui Lolohea received an offload.

Archer told NRL.com there was insufficient evidence to overturn the referee's original decision.

"The elements of an obstruction are if you run behind a teammate and disadvantage the defensive line, that's no try," said Archer.

"The determination from the bunker needs to be made as to whether or not the impact on Rankin is sufficient enough to overturn the live decision of try.

"Because the point of where the ball is scored over on the far side, the ability of Edwards and the other defenders to defend, I don’t think there’s sufficient (evidence) to overturn the live decision, so they should have confirmed the try."
