Chelsea have been fined NZ$170,000 and Manchester City NZ$ 60,000 after players from both sides were involved in a scuffle during a Premier League match on December 3.

The English Football Association announced that both clubs had been found guilty of "failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour."

The events occurred at the end of Chelsea's 3-1 win, after City striker Sergio Aguero had been sent off for a foul on Chelsea's David Luiz.

City midfielder Fernandinho was then also sent off after grappling with Cesc Fabregas.

Chelsea had reportedly been warned that they could face a points deduction after being guilty of similar charges in the past.

That possibility drew short shrift from Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

"Are you joking? Are you joking?" he said at the time. "At the end of the game, my players tried to keep their calm. I don't understand this.

“I repeat, I don't understand this."
