Chiefs coach Dave Rennie's reportedly being considered as the man to solve South Africa's rugby woes.

South African newspaper Rapport is suggesting that Rennie's in the mix to replace current Springboks coach Allister Coetzee who's lost eight of 12 Tests this year, the worst record in their storied history.

Coetzee is set to face a performance appraisal by South African Rugby and should know by next week whether or not he will remain in the top job, but has already admitted that he expects to be stood down.

The reports state that South African officials have already set the wheels in motion to secure the two-time Super Rugby champion who is off contract with the Chiefs at the end of the 2017 season.

One significant roadblock would be Rennie's two-year commitment to Scottish club Glasgow, although he's made no secret of his international coaching ambitions.

Coetzee himself would also require a sizeable payout from the remaining two-years of his contract, estimated to be worth approximately $NZ1.32 million.
