Nick Cummins has signed with the Australia Sevens team as he pursues a spot at the Rio Olympics.

The 28-year-old, affectionately known as the 'Honey Badger', will link up with the squad in March and will be available for selection for the final four legs of World Series season in the lead up to the Olympic Games.

Cummins has made 15 appearances for the Wallabies and represented the Sevens side on eight occasions in the World Series.

He was part of the Australian Sevens squad that were beaten by New Zealand in the final of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

"I'm keen as mustard to get this opportunity to play Sevens again. She's a big year, we all know why," Cummins said in a statement released by the ARU.

"To make the team, you've got to get on the burst and perform - and that's what I intend on doing."
