Catherine Cheately has picked up a bronze medal for New Zealand in the women's points race at the World Track Cycling Championships in Spain.

It is the first medal for a New Zealander since Sarah Ulmer and Greg Henderson both won golds three years ago.

In another ride yesterday, Cheatley finished 15th in the scratch race, while the New Zealand pair of Peter Latham and Marc Ryan failed to finish the men's madison.
