The accolades keep on coming for former All Blacks first-five Dan Carter, who's made the shortlist of fifteen for European Rugby's Player of the Year.

Carter's helped his French club Racing 92 reach the European Cup semifinals for the first time where they're due to meet the Leicester Tigers this weekend.

Leicester coach and ex-All Black Aaron Mauger still rates Carter as the best first-five in the world.

"When he's on top of his game, as we saw at the World Cup, there's probably no better," Mauger told BBC Radio 5 live.

"He's a fantastic footy player. He's pretty resilient, he's always worked very hard to be the best that he can be and that's why he has been one of the best the game has ever seen."

Two other New Zealanders join Carter on the shortlist for European Player of the Year, Wasps fullback Charles Piutau and Exeter number eight Thomas Waldrom.
