All Blacks and Highlanders centre Malakai Fekitoa has broken up with his long-term girlfriend Caroline McNaught, just days after posting about his anger issues on social media.
Ms McNaught accompanied Fekitoa to a number of high-profile events before the start of the Rugby World Cup, and photos of the couple together were shared on Instagram as recently as four weeks ago.
The 23-year-old wrote in detail on Instagram about his "huge problem with anger" on Wednesday, saying he was "ashamed and regretful" of his previous actions.
"I get really angry sometimes and flip out so I would like to apologise publicly to any of you if I ever said something really hurtful to you at home, on the field and through social media," he wrote.
"I suggest that no matter how old you are or who you are, whatever it is, you need to speak to someone about it. Your feelings and what's inside you. It's never bad until it will cost you. #CallOutForHelp."
The reason for the couple's separation is not yet known.
