The Football Ferns have notched an encouraging 4-1 win over South Africa less than a week out from their opening game at the Rio Olympics.
Two goals in each half were a reward for a slick New Zealand display, providing a boost of confidence ahead of their first pool match against defending champions the United States on Wednesday next week.
Amber Hearn and Hannah Wilkinson put the world's No.17-ranked side 2-0 ahead at halftime before Annalie Longo and Sarah Gregorius completed the scoring.
Ferns coach Tony Readings was happy with his team's performance.
"We played well, it's nice to get a win, it's nice to score some goals so close to the tournament," Readings said.
"Overall we're happy with the performance but we know there's still a lot more we can do to improve, so the key now is to get a rest tomorrow and then get back into it (to) prepare for the first game and try and make those improvements in the next four days."
It was a milestone match for midfielder Kirsty Yallop and defender Rebekah Stott, who played their 100th and 50th internationals respectively against the 52nd-ranked South Africans.
The Football Ferns were to have a final night in the Olympic Village on Thursday before leaving for Belo Horizonte, the venue for their opening game.
