Global season the solution for international rugby?

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has laid into rugby's international schedule after clean sweeping a tired Welsh side.

Wales is flying home from last night's 46-6 thrashing to a very short pre-season break, while the All Blacks jump straight back into Super Rugby.

In Hansen's eyes the players, fans and sponsors would all benefit from a global season.

"It's bordering on ridiculous really," Hansen said.

"A guy's getting onto a plane to South Africa a day after a Test match."

He's talking about last night's debutant Liam Squire, who is on a plane to South Africa today to re-join the Highlanders ahead of next weekend's clash with the Kings.

But Squire has it easy in comparison to the Welsh.

"A lot of the players now will get three or four weeks off, then they're back at their clubs starting for next season," said Wales coach Warren Gatland.

That's all many of the Welsh get despite playing non-stop since last year's Rugby World Cup.

Could a global season by the solution to help alleviate the differing demands of rich clubs and proud countries?

The most important aspect will be aligning the two hemispheres.
