New Zealand Cricket have confirmed that coach Mike Hesson and his support staff have been re-signed until and including the 2019 World Cup.

Batting coach Craig McMillan, manager Mike Sandle, and strength and conditioning coach Chris Donaldson have all re-committed to the wider squad.

NZC CEO David White was effusive in his praise for Hesson, who has taken the side to unprecedented heights in international rankings, the Black Caps currently sitting in the top spot for T20s, second in One Day Internationals, and fifth in Tests.

“Mike’s the most successful coach in New Zealand cricket history and, in my opinion, the best selector we’ve ever had,” he said.

“To have him committed to the Black Caps until after the next world cup is great news for all concerned.”

Hesson himself was buoyant about what the future held for his charges, and reiterated his investment in the team.

“Being around a group which works together and is striving to head in the same direction is extremely rewarding,” he said.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of the Black Caps culture and I feel lucky to be able to contribute to that for a little bit longer.

The 41-year-old made particular reference to the appointment of Kane Williamson as the captain across all three formats.

“We have a new leader in Kane which will bring some changes and that’s something to be excited by, too.

“Kane has his own style and philosophy, but it’s also important that he has the support which allows him and the team to thrive.”
